Cisco Systems plans to double its headcount in India by FY 10.
At the end of Q2 FY 07, Cisco India had about 2,800 employees, inclusive of R&D sales and business support staff.
“We are a global company and Cisco is serious about India. The company has set up the Cisco Global Development Centre in Bangalore, a software development centre, which is the largest out of the US,” said, Cisco India and SAARC VP (Business Development) Ranajoy Punja.
India was selected as the site for the Cisco Globalisation centre, set up at an investment of $50 million. The company plans to invest $1 billion, of which $750 million would be invested in the R&D facility at Bangalore, Punja said.
In India since 1995, Cisco Systems India has grown to 7 sales and marketing offices spread across the country.
Cisco India has joint development centres with companies like Wipro Technologies and Infosys Technologies at Bangalore, HCL Technologies at Chennai, Satyam Computer Services at Hyderabad and Zensar Technologies at Pune.
