Facebook announced two key appointments to launch its operations office in India, marking the company’s progress towards establishing a local team amid rapid growth in India and around the world.
As Director of Online Operations, Kirthiga Reddy will head Facebook’s operations in India, supporting the company’s growing number of users, advertisers and developers worldwide who are capitalising on Facebook’s global service to foster relationships with people and reach out to new customers locally and internationally.
“Facebook’s commitment to its users, advertisers, and developers is directly tied to the company’s mission to help the world become more open and connected,” said Kirthiga. “I’m honoured to be part of that mission right here in India, where so many people are passionate about Facebook and the future of the social web.”
Speaking exclusively to Biztech2.com, Facebook said, India is one of the most dynamic places to be in the social web space right now. There’s so much momentum here as people are using Facebook to voice their opinions on issues of national interest, like the Union Budget, send their families Facebook greetings for festivals, and follow their favorite cricket teams with their Facebook friends.
“India’s innovative and tech-savvy environment inspires us to invest heavily here,” said Facebook. From working closely with mobile carriers to create streamlined Facebook applications, to sponsoring a Developer Contest in 2009, which rewarded Indian developers for their creativity in creating applications and Connect integrations, Facebook has been actively involved.
Kirthiga and the India team will also be instrumental in developing effective relationships with government officials at the city, state, and national levels.
Working closely with Kirthiga, Manoj Varghese, Director of User Operations, will specialise in building a world-class user support team to serve the needs of the hundreds of millions of people, worldwide who actively use Facebook every day, including more than eight million active users in India. Both Kirthiga and Manoj will be based in Facebook’s newly opened office in Hyderabad. Facebook also intends to expand its management team in India, adding leadership that will specialise in spearheading local programs and building partner relationships. Together with Kirthiga and Manoj’s roles leading online and user operations, this partner team will advance Facebook’s ongoing commitment to India.
“Hyderabad’s incredibly talented applicant pool makes it an exciting place to hire a dynamic team,” added Manoj. “I can’t wait to get started.”
Facebook said that the company is currently conducting the interview process. The caliber of the applicants who have expressed their interest in Facebook, thus far has been impressive, and while we still have many candidates to meet and positions to fill, we are delighted that some of offers that we have made, have already been accepted.
