Nortel Ships New Release Of UC Solution

A new software-centric, feature-enhanced release of the Nortel Communication Server 1000 (CS 1000) is now available to businesses worldwide. With this latest release, 6.0, CS 1000 provides more simplicity, resiliency, security, and openness.

As part of release 6.0, CS 1000 offers a number of new features including greater centralisation of functions that can help enterprises to reduce the total cost of ownership of their network solution. For example, a new high-density services gateway, the Media Gateway 1010, centralises the provision of communications services and applications to simplify operations across the network.

Another component of release 6.0, the Unified Communications Management Solution manages CS 1000 as the network’s UC foundation and provides a framework that allows centralised management of all converged network elements. A Linux-based software solution provides simplified diagnostics and serviceability. Release 6.0 also expands CS 1000 options for COTS platforms adding the IBM x3350 and Dell R300.

It provides the benefits of a converged network plus advanced applications and several telephony features. Fully distributed over IP LAN and WAN infrastructure with built-in reliability, CS 1000 supports business-critical applications including unified messaging, customer contact centre, interactive voice response, wireless VoIP and SIP/ IP telephony.
