NaviSite, a web hosting, outsourcing and professional services company started its Indian operation in 2005 to establish its global delivery centre. It has now moved ahead to broadened its options to acquire Indian customers. The company had started the Indian centre to serve its global customers 24/7 for all core infrastructure management capabilities. Compliance and emergence of intelligent devices are driving the growth of the infrastructure management market in India.

Informs Sumit Sabharwal, managing director, NaviSite India, “The global infrastructure management market is around $110 billion. From a number stand point, Indian market was at a very low level but now we are seeing high traction in this market. We have tied up with Oracle for the customers falling under the sub billion dollar revenue. We have also partnered with Sun Microsystems to provide web hosting services to their customers in India and China for their Enterprise Startup Essential Programme. As we have global expertise in the field of web hosting we will leverage that experience here in India.” The company has already started discussions with some of the young entrepreneurs in India under the Sun programme and is jointly marketing with the Sun team in India.

NaviSite has transferred its primary network operation centre (NOC) from US to its India office and has implemented a global 24/7 customer support environment for services like messaging, network management, database administration and server management. The company is providing software as a service (SaaS) to its customers in US and other countries. With the positive trend in the Indian market towards SaaS in various enterprise applications, it is planning to extend its services through the use of Oracle on demand and other similar software to Indian entrepreneurs.

Opines Sabharwal, “We have been handling SaaS for a long time and many people are hesitant about it because you can’t tell what you’re actually going to need until you get into it. There are many challenges pertaining to the Indian entrepreneurs and the most common one is to address their need within their constraints. We have made significant strides over the past years in executing on an aggressive global delivery strategy that is aimed at delivering superior services and technical expertise at a competitive cost. By extending these facilities to entrepreneurs in India we can expand our footprint in India.”

The company has 15 data centres in US and is looking forward to introduce the pay per use concept in the virtualisation field in India. The SaaS application delivery model has seen significant interest within the web hosting industry, as service providers ready to build their solutions around the SaaS model. The company claims to have established its core competency in the mid market segment thereby eyeing the mid market in India to offer its cost effective solutions. The company has also tied up with Microsoft to help the ISVs. Though the company has a strong foot hold in the US and UK markets in the remote infrastructure management segment, it is looking at foraying into the Indian market through its partnership with SUN Microsystems for the web hosting services that will increase its exposure among Indian customers.
