Motorola Launches New In-Vehicle Mobile Computer

The Enterprise Mobility business from Motorola has announced the new VC6096 in-vehicle/ fixed mount mobile computer – an all-in-one solution designed to help maximise driver productivity, reduce costs and improve customer service. The new VC6096 extends the breadth of Motorola’s mobile computer offerings with comprehensive wireless voice and data capabilities for transportation and logistics providers.

The VC6096 in-vehicle/ fixed mount mobile computer is a versatile solution that enables the collection of business-essential data – including mileage, location, driver performance and vehicle metrics such as hours of service and arrival and departure times. With integrated GPS, the VC6096 provides the asset visibility needed to support real-time location-based applications from directions for drivers to fleet location for dispatchers. By providing mobile workers with simultaneous voice and data connections via 3.5G WAN connectivity on the GSM network, enterprises can realise increased productivity and enhanced customer service as a result of route optimisation – reducing the number of miles traveled while helping to ensure customers receive deliveries on schedule.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

“The VC6096 improves the efficiency of mobile workers on the road with real-time connectivity and instant communication – when and where they need it,” said Brian Viscount, vice president of mobile computing, Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility business. “By enabling organisations to more quickly, easily and accurately capture relevant driver and vehicle data, enterprises will reduce paperwork and increase efficiency by automating the driver logs, time cards, and highway fuel tax reports.”

The new VC6096 also improves the safety and lifecycle of vehicle fleets with integrated SAE J1708 and SAE J1939 telematics support. Transportation customers are now armed with the tools for automatic monitoring and collection of engine operation information – providing dispatchers with visibility into engine error codes to improve overall maintenance, driver productivity, and vehicle utilisation. The VC6096 can also provide information on the driving patterns of mobile workers to identify safety issues, eliminate unnecessary wear and tear on vehicles and minimise fuel consumption. In addition, the new VC6096, unlike proprietary solutions, offers an open platform that allows customers to select and control applications and peripherals that best meet their business needs.

The VC6096 vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computer is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2008.
