The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has initiated an E-Governance Project launched by Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The MCGM’s Portal www.mcgm.gov.in was also unveiled during the programme.
The E-Governance project will encompass all the departments at the MCGM and includes modules like Ward Management, Fleet Management, Octroi Software system, SWM Vehicle Tracking, Human Resources, GIS, and Aqua Billing. These modules will facilitate issuing of licenses for trade, shop establishments, birth and death certificates payment procedures, aqua billing and complaint management.
“The E-Governance project will enable MCGM in cleansing the system and will bring in transparency,” said V.Radha Joint Municipal Commissioner (Head-IT, Property Tax and Octroi) MCGM.
The property tax department will be the greatest beneficiary from the E-Governance project. The implementation of the project will help the department in getting a clearer picture about MCGM’s assets across Mumbai, cost, and information on lease period. It will also result in a huge decrease of file transfers.
The corporation has roped in TCS to implement the project.
The IT infrastructure supporting the E-Governance initiative includes various back-end systems with seven modules of SAP and three other modules like Property Tax, Aqua Billing and Octroi. The applications are running on IBM Xeon P75 servers. The database used is Oracle 10g.
