McAfee has announced the activation of its fifth cloud datacentre in the past twelve months. The newest datacentre, located in London, England, expands the company’s global cloud security footprint, which includes datacentres in Amsterdam, Sydney, Tokyo and several across North America. A new cloud datacentre in Hong Kong is expected to be online in the coming weeks.
The rapid deployment of the new cloud datacentres demonstrates McAfee’s ability to meet the global demand for its email and web Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) security solutions.
“McAfee has been leading the industry with SaaS security solutions for more than a decade now,” said Scott Chasin, Chief Technology Officer, McAfee Cloud and Content business. “The rapid expansion of cloud datacentres over the past year underscores our commitment to our customers and partners to deliver the highest-grade, global cloud security footprint.”
Each of the datacentres are designed to deliver performance and reliability with a minimum of two datacentres in each region acting as backup to one another. The datacentres operate on multiple power feeds and connect to independent Internet trunks. In addition, the datacentres are “carrier neutral”, meaning they don’t rely on any single Internet Service Provider for inbound or outbound traffic. McAfee also registers domain names with multiple vendors to help eliminate the risk of any provider-side issues.
Onsite physical features of McAfee cloud datacentres include high capacity HVAC systems (N+1 configuration), redundant fibre entry points, VESDA early warning fire detection systems, biometric scanners controlling physical access, continuous video surveillance through CCTV, backup generators and UPS power back-up with at least N+1 configuration.
To deliver performance and efficiency of its SaaS security solutions, the McAfee cloud datacentres utilise external routing tools such as UltraDNS Managed External DNS service along with Border Gateway Protocal (BGP) to ensure internet traffic is routed in an efficient manner.
