Rajesh Khurana, country manager - India and SAARC, Seagate highlights the latest trends in the storage area, and the organisation’s recent tie-ups and acquisitions, in a one-on-one with Biztech2.
What are the latest trends in the enterprise storage market?
The latest trend in the storage area is to scale down the physical size of components while scaling up capacity and performance. We are also seeing new trends around the Internet data centres - the content is extremely rich and by that we mean it’s a lot more than just spreadsheets and databases. The type of media being sent across the Internet present a tremendous opportunity for Seagate and the disk drive industry to step up and provide customers a path to not only track the acquisition’s cost, enable these new business models, but also provide something that fits well, within the ecological concerns of the world going forward.
High density servers and cost effective tiered storage solutions are the foundation of tomorrow’s efficient IT environment.
What are the data recovery services offered by Seagate and Accel Frontline for Indian customers?
We have made a strategic tie up with Accel Frontline to provide data recovery services to our customers in India. It is a part of our ongoing expansion for global data recovery services operations. Enterprises are increasingly placing a premium on the value of digital content and they cannot afford to lose digital data that has become such an integral part of them. Our data recovery services provide a last line of defence against data loss with a disaster recovery implementation for large corporations.
As part of the agreement, Accel will honour and maintain the agreed service level, data quality commitment and customer confidentiality as stated by Seagate and will also adhere to the company’s ISO 9001:2000 guidelines to ensure procedural and quality excellence for all data recovery cases.
Could you elaborate on your enterprise strategy in India and the challenges while approaching Indian CIOs?
The enterprise strategy of Seagate is no different from its operations in other countries. We are providing product knowledge, training and certifications to our partners.
We have not really faced any kind of challenges from the Indian CIOs. However, there is a need for awareness concerning new technologies and we are participating in various events to update them on our newly launched products.
How has the Maxtor acquisition helped Seagate?
The acquisition has opened the option of choosing a wide range of products in the storage segment from Seagate. Seagate will continue to provide distributors and resellers with tools, programs and incentives designed to create demand for and sell a broad range of computers built with Seagate brand hard drives.
Seagate’s support for Maxtor brand hard drives will include volume incentive programs and basic levels of service and support for resellers and system integrators. The Maxtor brand business model also will be based on open distribution with a standard pricing structure and volume discounts that will enable Maxtor authorised distributors to respond quickly to customer needs. Maxtor and Seagate products complement each other.
