Red Hat, Inc has announced that Marico, is powering its SAP-based mission-critical ERP system on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. As a result, the company has decreased its total cost of ownership (TCO) by 50 percent, reduced systems maintenance, increased scalability and expanded the performance of the ERP system.
Post upgrading their hardware to meet with the standards for its updated SAP suite, Marico realised that more cost effective alternatives would be required to sustain the costs associated with its IT infrastructure. “We needed to find alternative solutions that would significantly reduce our TCO without compromising on other parameters such as performance, reliability and scalability of the solution,” said Satish Pai, Systems Administration Manager, Marico.
Marico’s IT team initially evaluated two flavours of Linux – Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell SUSE Linux. Red Hat Enterprise Linux has allowed Marico to lower its IT costs by 50 percent, simplify its management, reduce systems maintenance and increase scalability and performance with SAP Business Suite. Marico migrated its mission-critical SAP ERP system from a proprietary HP-UX operating system implemented on an Intel Itanium 2-based hardware platform to Red Hat Enterprise Linux on (HP Blade servers) in order to reduce the total cost of ownership of its IT infrastructure.
“We make our IT decisions after thoroughly examining and understanding the potential impact on our business, performance requirements and the net impact on our operating costs,” said Girish Rao, Head - IT at Marico. “In that sense, running SAP Business Suite applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform delivers maximum value to our business enabling business growth.”
