Maharashtra E-Governance Model To Be Extended

Oracle India has announced that the Maharashtra e-governance model, jointly developed by Oracle and ABM Knowledgeware, will be extended following a government resolution and order by the Urban Development Department, Government of Maharashtra. The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation‘s (KDMC) project will be replicated to 231 urban local bodies by 2012.

This will allow the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to optimize transparency and accountability by automating access to more than 100 citizen services in Maharashtra.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The solution, patented under the name of KDMC, includes MAINet, software for e-governing municipal bodies from ABM Knowledgeware standardised on Oracle Database. It allows ULBs to operate with high levels of transparency and accountability and will benefit millions of citizens by creating an online citizen interface for all Municipal Corporations and Nagar Parishads (Municipalities). Work has already been initiated in some of the cities.

The project, to be delivered through citizen facilitation centres (CFC), will help automate access to more than 100 citizen services in Maharashtra including tax payments, property related queries for telephone or internet connections, application for new water connection, application for any other service, registration of any civic complaint, etc.

“KDMC is a great success and replicating it for other municipal bodies takes us one step closer to our vision of e-governance. Not only have we been able to provide citizen services to a larger population more efficiently through this model, it has also helped us reduce our overheads and increase revenue,” said Anil Lad, System Manager, KDMC. “The stability, performance and sustainability of the solution make us confident that we can help other municipal corporations deploy something similar.”

“We have been associated with KDMC since its inception and it is an honour to be part of a project that works towards creating a better citizen service network within the country,” said Sandeep Mathur, Vice President, Technology, Oracle India. “We will continue to provide our support to KDMC and ABM Knowledgeware as we move forward on the project of delivering these solutions to the Urban Local Bodies.”
