KPIT Cummins, a global IT consulting and product engineering partner company, adopts Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010 for better collaboration among employees. This will lead to reduction of travel and communication cost by 15% and 35% annually, respectively. The net reduction in the cost will be considerably high as KPIT Cummins have more than 6000 employees spread across 15 locations globally and the need of better collaboration is a necessity in such an off-shore business model.
Microsoft Exchange server 2010 incorporates many features aimed at web and online services like database availability groups which automate database-level disaster recovery, online mailbox moves, which give users access when mailboxes are moved and new management tools, including role-based access control. Lync 2010 supports collaboration in a much better and simplified way. Users can keep a track of their availability, join an audio/video web conference and make phone calls from the laptops.
KPIT Cummins integrated Microsoft Lync ( Instant messenger, Live meeting , Group Chat), MS Exchange 2010, Outlook 2010 and IP Telephony running on CISCO Call Manager so that users can see presence and interact using single interface. Users can call within the organisation across locations using their laptop or desktop rather than relying on their mobile phones or traditional IP phones at no cost. KPIT employees can call from anywhere using their IM, take part in the Live meeting ( Audio, Video, Presentation) from anywhere using their laptop. With the federation services enabled, KPIT employees can interact with customers having Microsoft Lync and also do Instant Messaging with other third party messengers using the same Lync client. IT team at KPIT Cummins uses Lync very effectively for providing IT support to global users by taking remote desktop control from the centralised service desk.
Mandar Marulkar, Head IT infrastructure, KPIT Cummins, said, “For the future expansion plans of the company, we recognised that there was a need for a high-quality experience for communications and collaboration. As most of our business deals have off-shore/onsite model, employees were heavily dependent on international calls and travel, and as a result, communication and commuting costs were rising. After the adoption of Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010, our employees started using Lync for over-seas calls leading to a heavy reduction in the communication and travel expenses.”
“The deployment of Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010 at KPIT Cummins will support employees in collaborating in a much better way,” said Sanjay Manchanda, Director - Microsoft Office Division, Microsoft. This will not only help them in cutting their travel and communication cost tremendously but will enhance the productivity of the employees. Our unified communication solutions enhance the productivity of various departments of an organisation and unnecessary effort and time for travelling can be minimised.”
The new unified communications solution gives KPIT Cummins’ employees the ability to communicate better with each other. This will support in constant real time communication between employees, customers and partners enabling faster decision making and greater efficiency. Prior to the adoption of Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010, there was limited usage of video conferencing due to high expenses and lack of infrastructure space. Further, Microsoft Lync ushers in a new connected user experience transforming every communication into an interaction that is more collaborative, engaging and accessible from anywhere.
Such tools are a pivotal in the future expansion of the company as most of the business deals are global in nature and require lot of international communication. KPIT Cummins employees were heavily dependent on international calls and travel for business purpose, but now with the adoption of Lync 2010 and Exchange 2010, the company will save a lot on expenditure and time.
