McAfee has announced the appointment of John Thode as executive vice president and general manager. Thode is now responsible for developing and executing the strategy and bookings model for McAfee’s consumer, mobile and small business unit.
“John has more than 30 years of experience in the wireless infrastructure and consumer handset business,” said Todd Gebhart, co-president, McAfee. “He has the proven ability to develop and grow emerging businesses and has a history of leading and inspiring great teams. We are excited to welcome him to McAfee.”
Thode joins McAfee from Dell where he was general manager of the Consumer Products Group. He was responsible for driving strategy and development of all of Dell’s non-traditional PC products including netbooks, smart phones, tablets, accessories, content and services. He had led marketing, engineering and sales support associates globally.
Prior to Dell, Thode was president and chief executive officer of ISCO Intl. Inc. (a telecom infrastructure company). He also spent 25 years with Motorola as vice president and general manager of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Handset Products.
Thode holds a Master of Business Administration from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Thode will report directly to Gebhart and is based in Illinois.
