Ixia, a provider of IP performance test systems, has announced its three-year strategy for the Indian subcontinent. The company has also launched ‘iSimCity’, an executive briefing centre and proof-of-concept (PoC) lab in Bangalore, aimed at serving the growing telecom R&D presence in India. The new ‘iSimCity’ is capable of simulating an entire city, reaching out to a broad subscriber base offering a host of IP services.
iSimCity is able to simulate 120,000 subscribers in a single test and by the end of the year, the capacity is expected to reach up to 500,000 subscribers. Ixia already has presence across R&D segments in India. The company is eyeing aggressive growth in the next three years, expanding its presence in north and west markets to cover carrier and defense verticals. The company’s current customer list includes Reliance, Bharti, Nortel, Cisco and Juniper amongst others. Ixia also has an engineering and quality assurance facility in Kolkata.
Atul Bhatnagar, president and CEO, Ixia, said, “India as a market offers tremendous potential for growth. We will actively support this growth by increasing our direct local sales and R&D presence in order to address the needs of the customers. Ixia will provide not only a high level of technical expertise in the IP area, but also quick support to customers.”
iSimCity to serve the growing telecom R&D presence in India
The new iSimCity centre launched in Bangalore is among a number of proof-of-concept labs that Ixia is establishing around the world. Customers will be able to make use of Ixia’s professional services and schedule third-party tests in the advanced lab environment. Network equipment manufacturers, service providers and enterprises often request a proof-of-concept demonstration, at scale, before they are willing to commit to purchasing test applications and equipment. Both test hardware
and software must be proven to function with the devices to be tested.
Maturity of customers to lead to increase in IP services in India
Currently, IP service offerings are at a nascent stage in India. The continued sophistication of customers will lead to the increase in demand. Carriers are slowly but steadily moving towards a complete IP platform, with which they can offer multiple services. Carriers will need to test for user experience (QoS), which will drive the growth for IP test equipment. In the current situation, the growth of NEM R&D facilities in India and the growth of the IP network in India offering such services as VoIP, IPTV will determine Ixia’s growth in the country. Presently, Ixia’s test systems are used by network and telephony equipment manufacturers, semiconductor manufacturers, service providers, governments and enterprises to validate the performance and reliability of complex IP networks, devices, and applications.
