The latest trends, challenges and future of IP-based networking in India, as emphasized by Subhasish Gupta, country manager, Allied Telesyn, India and SAARC.
What are the latest trends on IP-based networking and what do Indian enterprises stand to gain from them?
I believe IP is becoming universal across the entire communication domain. One can call it an extension of the convergence spree. The first wave of convergence was about consolidating data and voice service and may be video to some extent. The current trend is to go a step further into building automation system, surveillance networks and process control systems. The true benefit that comes to the Indian enterprise is the capability to interact between these isolated solutions into a composite framework.
What is Allied Telesyn’s enterprise strategy for the Indian companies?
Allied Telesyn has always positioned itself as a comprehensive IP-based networking vendor that offers best ROI to enterprise customers. Enterprise needs and requirements from a network infrastructure point of view are fast changing and most of them are looking at converged solutions. With more and more applications riding the network, their networks are becoming even more complex. Through our unique solutions on switch and router, we try to ease their problems. The intelligence in our solutions takes care of most of the self-healing features. We are approaching the enterprises in India to provide the best with highest return.
What challenges do you face while approaching Indian CIOs with your networking products?
The most common issue mentioned by Indian enterprises is the complexity of their network. Hence, they either look at investing in skilled, dedicated resources to manage their networks or outsourcing their entire network infrastructure management. However, both these options are very expensive. Hence, we always focus on making complex networks simple for our customers.
Our intelligent networking solutions on the switch and router front have been well accepted by CIOs. Using the unique intelligence solutions, they have been able to reduce the cost of managing their complex networks to a great extent. This is what we propose as the best ROI for an enterprise.
How does Allied Telesyn differentiate itself from its competitors?
Allied Telesyn has its own Research and Development setup across the Globe to develop products and solutions for the IP world. About 90% of our products are manufactured in our own manufacturing facilities. We are one of the pioneers in investing in IPv6 and today we have a complete suite of solutions that are IPv6 ready. Allied Telesyn has always worked on IEEE-based standards.
What is your view on the future of IP-based networking in India?
IP will stay for a long period, as far as our vision goes. With 85% of the world’s network running on and supporting IP, it is a very strong contender as the framework for communications architecture in the next decade. IP will transform to support the needs of new age applications. The first iteration towards this is the advent of IPv6.
As enterprises realise the advantage of a complete IP-based network, they is an increased inclination towards its deployment. The migration to IP-based networks from proprietary, legacy platforms is happening at a very fast pace.
