Intel India organised a mobility roadshow in the city to outline its plan to accelerate new mobile device experiences across the company’s growing portfolio of smartphone and tablet offerings. At the roadshow, the company also showcased its brand new, low-power, high-performance microarchitecture named Silvermont and shared details about the forthcoming Intel Atom SoC for tablets (“Bay Trail-T”) due in the market this year.

“The mobile devices ecosystem in India is evolving rapidly and is seeing a lot of innovation. Localised products that bring alive compelling user experiences will drive greater differentiation, and we are committed to accelerate and invest in our efforts to bring the best of next-gen mobility with a focus on smartphones, tablets and wireless communications,” said George Chacko, Product Marketing Manager, Intel APAC.

Intel’s Atom processor platform (“Clover Trail+”) and smartphone reference design delivers good performance with low-power and long battery life that rivals today’s most popular Android phones. The product brings Intel’s classic product strengths, including high performance that lets you enjoy smooth Web browsing, vibrant, glitch-free, full HD movies, and an Android applications experience that launches fast and runs great. The processor also features support for Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, supporting four simultaneous application threads and further enhancing the overall efficiency of the Atom cores.

The recently announced Intel Silvermont microarchitecture was designed and co-optimised with Intel’s 22nm SoC process using revolutionary 3-D Tri-gate transistors. By taking advantage of this technology, Intel is able to provide a significant performance increase and improved energy efficiency to address low-power requirements in market segments ranging from smartphones to datacentres.

“The Silvermont microarchitecture is a testimony of our design and process technology co-optimisation capabilities. By leveraging our strengths in microarchitecture development and leading-edge process technology, we delivered a technology package that enables significantly improved performance and power efficiency – all while delivering higher frequencies. We’re proud of this accomplishment and believe that Silvermont will offer a strong and flexible foundation for a range of new, low-power Intel SoCs,” said George Chacko, Product Marketing Manager, Intel APAC.

Intel’s quad-core “Bay Trail” SoC is scheduled for holiday 2013 tablets and will more than double the compute performance capability of Intel’s current-generation tablet offering. Due to the flexibility of Silvermont, variants of the “Bay Trail” platform will also be used in market segments including entry laptop and desktop computers in innovative form factors. The “Bay Trail” platform is already up and running on Windows and Android and will help enable new experiences in designs as thin as 8mm that have all-day battery life and weeks of standby. Bay Trail also represents the first time Intel is offering its customers a mobile platform solution that is flexible with regard to operating system, and the company will provide the same great Intel tablet performance and high-resolution graphics, with cost savings to consumers.

Intel’s “Merrifield” is scheduled for shipping to customers by the end of this year. It will enable increased performance and battery life over current-generation products and will bring support for context aware and personal services, ultra-fast connections for Web streaming and increased data, device and privacy protection.
