Informatica Corporation, a provider of data integration and data quality software recently announced its strategic relationship with Cognos, a provider of business intelligence and performance management solutions.
Cognos has signed a worldwide reseller agreement with Informatica for its data quality software. The companies will also expand their go-to-market cooperation in the field for data integration to provide customers with complete best-of-breed solutions.
Biztech2 spoke to Ramendra Mandal, Country Manager, Informatica India, about the tie-up and Informaticas plans for the Indian market.
Kindly give an insight into the strategic relationship with Cognos?
Informatica’s partnership with Cognos was designed to provide organizations best-of-breed solutions for performance management and data integration from the leaders in their respective markets.
Under terms of this agreement, Cognos will resell Informatica Data Quality and Informatica Data Explorer products as part of its performance management portfolio. Cognos and Informatica will also team to jointly provide customers with data integration capabilities that will enhance and strengthen the overall performance management solutions in their organizations. The two companies will also cooperate in joint marketing and sales initiatives to promote best-case data quality strategies for performance management.
With this move how do you intend to address the Data quality issues in the industry?
Well, the data quality reseller agreement and the proactive collaboration around data integration expand the reach of Informatica’s best-of-breed capabilities to new performance management markets and provide interoperability with Cognos Performance Management for customers. The Cognos Performance Management System, as known, combines technology, best practices, analytical applications, and a broad network of partners into a single performance management solution for its customers.
We believe that together, the companies can now address data quality issues that span the full breadth of performance management data, rather than just dealing with customer data, as is typical of other solutions. The combination is expected to deliver a complete and consistent view of information so that customers may address, and continuously improve, the quality of information they rely upon to drive the performance of their business.
Explain the complementary Data Quality Professional Services
As part of this alliance, Cognos will offer specifically targeted Professional Services to help customers implement successfully. The Cognos Data Quality Rapid Assessment Service is a quick-win approach to understand how well existing data assets support a customer’s performance management solution, helping identify how to improve the accuracy and completeness of data to increase business confidence in the overall solution. The service culminates with the delivery of a baseline Data Quality Assessment Summary that delivers data quality reports, best practices and concrete recommendations.
How does leveraging SOA help enterprises real time?
SOA can help companies manage technologies within their organization, while at the same time improving collaboration with trading partners in order to respond to consumer demands quickly and more consistently. SOA relies on the use of open standards and web services to facilitate sharing of information, and simplifies integration between retailers, suppliers, customers, and partners so that retailers can truly automate business processes and move on to the next level of supply chain management.
What are your immediate plans after this strategic move?
Cognos has signed a worldwide reseller agreement with Informatica that covers India and the SAARC countries. Both Informatica and Cognos will expand their go-to-market cooperation in India in the field of Data Integration. Thus, we will be able to address a broader market with this partnership.
Both Cognos and Informatica’s direct sales force and Informatica distributors/ resellers like TCS, Wipro, Sonata etc, will collaborate to address customer needs more effectively. Informatica’s infrastructure for delivering Education Services and Professional Services will be leveraged to impart training and implementation services to the Cognos-Informatica customers.
Any new product on the anvil?
We are very excited about the recently launched Informatica Data Quality 8.5. We added a number of features that allow PowerCenter customers to do more with Data Quality directly from within the PowerCenter UI. We are also facilitating correction and consolidation performed by business level experts directly on exception data. Lastly, Informatica Data Quality 8.5 allows SAP users to make real-time calls to standardize and correct data as the data gets entered into the application.
