IIM Shillong Goes Live With Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solns

IIM Shillong, also known as the Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, has completed the implementation of the student system and alumni development solution for higher education from Oracle. The institute has implemented various modules from Oracle’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Oracle Applications with the help of Citagus India, an IT solutions and services company with specialised experience in implementing PeopleSoft solutions. Incidentally, IIM Shillong becomes the first among India’s centrally-funded Technical Institutions and Universities, which include IITs, IIMs etc, to complete the implementation of a comprehensive ERP solution.

IIM Shillong’s IT implementation has automated all its back-end processes. This has improved time management, data accounting and the management of human resources and staff/ student feedback. The net result has been the freeing up of time and resources and provision of better information for management and faculty to enhance their core mission of delivering education programmes to the Institute’s post graduate students.

The full IT implementation project includes the deployment of Peoplesoft Campus Solutions, Human Capital Management, Financials, and Supply Chain Management applications from Oracle. The benefits from the Peoplesoft Campus Solution modules for IIM Shillong’s faculty and management include a complete calendar view of a teacher’s classes; easy tracking of student grades; display of notes on students’ transcripts; automated leave planning and related compensation for the entire workforce; smooth planning and co-ordination of recruitment programmes targeted at specific student populations; and display of assignments on the Web with due dates, point assessment and weighting.

Students will gain benefits like access to a secure, Web-based, 360-degree view of their relationship with the institution; view of class and exam schedules; delivery of transcripts; access to grade history; management of accounts for charges, payments and admission deposits; and facilities for online credit card and eCheck payments.

In addition, IIM Shillong will also be able to more effectively manage relationships with alumni and other donors. Some modules of the PeopleSoft Campus Solution provide alumni contributors with access to a detailed history of their involvement with the institution. The system can also help create college fund raising strategies and programmes, including target audience cultivation, contact reports, to-do lists, donor management, processing of contributions and communications tracking. Alumni can also make authorised, authenticated, and secure online credit card donations.
