IBM India has announced the availability of the new generation of Intel Xeon processor 5500 series-based System x servers and software that enable customers to more easily roll out virtualised computing and reduce growing operating costs.
With the new systems, IBM engineers addressed key challenges in today’s data centre, where hefty costs for power usage and IT management pile-up, while processors sit idle or under-utilised. Combining open, industry standards with experience and research capabilities, the IBM X-Architecture blueprint equips System x and BladeCenter servers with technology that makes IT easier and more reliable.
Ajay Mittal, country manager, System x, STG, IBM India/ South Asia, said, “We have a vision to build a dynamic IT infrastructure for our clients, one that takes out cost, improves IT management, and offers them the security and flexibility to grow and stay competitive. The new generation servers and software will give clients the reason to invest in an IT infrastructure that can help lower operating costs in challenging economic times while improving service and competiveness.”
Key Features
The IBM System x servers are optimally efficient in design to lower costs. In addition to the new Intel processor, all of the new generation offerings include a complete redesign of the power and cooling for higher energy efficiency. Going further, IBM Power Systems, System z, storage and non-IBM x86 servers are all supported, with a potential cost savings in management costs of up to 44 percent.
In addition to hardware innovations, IBM announced new management software to complement Systems Director 6.1, which enables clients to automatically manage virtual and physical assets across platforms.
IBM is also introducing ‘Express’ models of three systems that are designed for midsize companies.
