Gujarat Metro Rail Project Implements SAP Solutions

SAP AG has announced that the Metro-link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) has chosen SAP solutions to assist Gujarat’s metro rail run efficiently and profitably. The deployment will enable various departments of MEGA to be connected over a unified network and facilitate smoother information flow and access. With this implementation, MEGA aims to develop a landmark metro rail project for the state of Gujarat while simultaneously catalysing dense and orderly urban growth in the state.

Growing cities like Ahmedabad will soon house the bulk of the mushrooming population in future. The rapid sprawl of population, increasing fuel consumption and the resultant pollution has made public transport imperative. The Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar metro rail project was launched with a vision to provide safe, fast and eco-friendly services at affordable rates. This project will promote pioneer integrated public transportation in the region undertaken by collaborating with Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Railways and other modes of public transit system. Seamless connectivity, minimum land acquisition, state- of- art infrastructure, fastest implementation, least construction cost are some of the key features of the project.

“Efficient urban transportation benefits people’s lives. MEGA team is confident that SAP implementation will facilitate greater transparency and agility in the system and will assist them in improving operational proficiency. SAP’s partner ATOS implemented the project in 6 months. This project included deployment of various solutions from SAP such as SAP ECC, SAP BusinessObjects, SAP EHS, SAP Payroll and SAP Netweaver.

The proposed metro project by MEGA will have, ballast-less tracks, driverless air-conditioned coaches, GPS based rail tracking system, train destination indicators & stations with support infrastructure like automated fare collection, m-ticketing, parking facilities, etc.
