Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 41.9 percent market share in the U.S, while Google’s Android led the smartphone OS category with about 52.1 percent share. In the U.S., smartphone holds 70 percent of the total mobile market share, reported comScore.

About 169 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in May 2014, up 4 percent since February. Apple topped OEM category with 41.9 percent smartphone subscribers (up 0.6 percentage points from February). Samsung ranked second with 27.8 percent market share (up 0.8 percentage points), followed by LG with 6.5 percent, Motorola with 6.3 percent, and HTC with 5.1 percent.

When it comes to the top smatphone operating platform, Android ruled the market with 52.1 percent share, followed by Apple with 41.9 percent, Microsoft with 3.4 percent, BlackBerry with 2.3 percent, and Symbian with 0.1 percent.

Facebook was a clear winner in the smartphone app category, reaching 76.4 percent of the app audience, followed by Google Play (51.8 percent), YouTube (51.7 percent) and Google Search (49.2 percent).
