EMC India Center of Excellence (COE) has announced its research partnership with the Center for Cloud Computing and Big Data at the Department of Computer Science of the PES Institute of Technology (PESIT), Bangalore, which will focus on developing new Hybrid cloud solutions for emerging business challenges.
The research engagement comes under EMC’s global research program – the EMC Innovation Network – and is the third research partnership EMC has undertaken in India. By collaborating with Universities, EMC aims to combine strengths offered with its own to discover technologies and new approaches in information infrastructure.
Hybrid clouds are on the verge of becoming the de facto enterprise model over time. They offer much higher value for the enterprise customer who simply wants the best of both worlds—private clouds and public clouds— with an intelligent combination of internal and external resources that delivers the right mix of cost savings, service levels, and agility.
Niranjan Thirumale, Chief Technology Officer, EMC India Center of Excellence said, “Cloud computing has reached a higher level of maturity with its advanced infrastructure, software and service offerings. Deep research in this sector will further enable the market to realise the value of this technology. PESIT has demonstrated exceptional focus on Cloud, and EMC will be working with it specifically on Hybrid Cloud research.”
PESIT, Bangalore was identified by associating the research focus to the requirements of specific business units at EMC besides considering the presence of the Centre for Cloud Computing and Big Data (CCBD), college’s commitment to research, quality of technical talent of faculty and student levels, etc. Such a practice is expected to give better output and will further enable practical implementation of the research findings.
The CCBD at PESIT, under the aegis of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was setup to enable research & technical exchange, while educating students on cloud computing technologies. The research team comprising of faculty from CCBD and 26 students from the college will work collaboratively with the worldwide network of research expertise and resources within EMC. The research efforts will spread over one year time frame and will continue as required.
Dr M.R. Doreswamy, MLC and founder Chairman of PES Institutions said, “We are pleased to join hands with one of the global leaders in Cloud – EMC, for research work on cloud technology. Through this partnership, we will aim to together solve current technological challenges and come up with solutions which can make an impact quickly on the cloud ecosystem.”
EMC aims to also further extend its research collaboration in India considerably, and establish strong engagements with Indian technical institutes that offer subject matter expertise and deep technical know-how on information infrastructure technologies.
This is EMC’s third research partnership with a premier technology institute in India since the launch of its University Collaboration initiative in late 2011. Its earlier partnerships include research on the analysis of unstructured data with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc), and research on information security with Amrita University, Coimbatore.
