Thin clients continue to make up the vast majority (97%) of enterprise client devices and saw a major increase of 14.5 percent from the same quarter in the previous year. Terminal clients grew 31.5 percent over the previous quarter with 42,964 units shipped.

The standalone form factor constitutes the largest segment of the overall market at 88.6 percent share. For the mobile form factor, Japan has the majority of the worldwide share with 43 percent, followed by the United States with 39.6 percent. Thin clients with LCD displays are dominant in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APeJ) and hold 59.7 percent of the worldwide share.

Thin clients without operating systems (zero clients) now hold 27.9 percent share among the thin client segment, which is an increase of 22.8 percent from the previous quarter. Windows Embedded OS thin clients are the largest at 41.6 percent share.

Dell moved into the number 1 position in 2Q14 with 28.8 percent worldwide market share. It is the number one vendor in Americas with 44 percent share, where it holds top rank in the U.S. with 46.2 percent share. Dell is also the leading vendor in Japan this quarter with 23 percent market share.

After a long period as the number 1 vendor, HP falls slightly to the number 2 position this quarter with 26.5 percent of worldwide market share. However, HP still ranked first in four out of eight geographic regions.

NComputing continues to be ranked third in worldwide market share at 11.6 percent share in 2Q14. It is ranked number 1 in APeJ despite having no shipments to China. Terminal clients represent 89.6 percent of its total terminal unit volume, which helped it to achieve this top position.

Within the thin client category, Centerm held 6.7 percent globally, and the number 1 position in the APeJ market for 2Q14, with 23.2 percent regional share due to being the leading vendor in China with 43.2 percent local share.

Igel (4.3 percent share) continues its strong performance in 2Q14 with notable gains in Western Europe with 89.6 percent of its shipments concentrated there.
