Dell recently announced its new line of notebooks meant for mobile entrepreneurs – the 13.3-inch Vostro V13, targeted specifically at SME professionals.
Starting at Rs 28,500 (including taxes) it comes with a brushed aluminium chassis and zinc hinges. The V13, like the entire Vostro line, features a suite of customisable service and support solutions designed specifically for small enterprises.
“Not long ago, business travellers like me had to choose mobility and affordability at the expense of performance. That will no longer be the case now that the V13 is here,” said Ravi Bharadwaj, General Manager, SME, Dell India. “This 13-inch small business laptop stands in a category of its own as entrepreneurs now have quality performance, good battery life and security combined with a thin and lightweight design sturdy enough for today’s business demands.”
The notebook is slated to be positioned between the netbook and a mainstream laptop. What makes it different from a netbook is that it comes with an Intel Core2 Solo processor, which is underclocked to gain on battery life. Also, it comes with a full-fledged 13.3" screen, which is a plus. However, it features only one stand-alone USB port. The other is an eSATA port which also doubles up as a USB one. These days even a low-end netbook features two to three USB ports as a standard. Also, the default operating system that would be shipped with the unit would be Linux-based and you might have to shell out extra to upgrade to Windows7.
On the other hand, this notebook’s biggest advantage lies in its weight – at 1.6 kilos it is easy to carry around and offers a proper keyboard unlike a netbook. Also, an optional service – Dell DataSafe – lets you archive your essential business documents and retrieve them when needed.
The notebook has been launched globally and in India.
