Dell Joins Hands With Reliance To Offer Wireless Broadband

Dell Joins Hands With Reliance To Offer Wireless Broadband

Dell has announced a bundling offer today for a select range of notebooks/ netbooks with a specially-designed wireless broadband package from Reliance. To be marketed as ‘NetConnect Broadband Plus’, the wireless broadband package will include a USB card and six months of unlimited wireless broadband (subject to a ‘fair use’ cap) with the notebook/ netbook on purchase. Upon completion of the offer period, customers can choose to enter any of the existing Reliance plans available at that point of time. According to the agreement between the two companies, Dell will make these bundled computing products available through its established channel across the country.

Mahesh Bhalla, director and general manager of Consumer Sales, Dell India, said, “Internet proliferation along with the attendant benefits across business as well as personal use has been a key driver in the PC market. But the real catalyst in laptop sales would be when internet access becomes easier, affordable and consistent. This is the first step towards Dell’s objective of becoming a complete solutions provider”.

“Internet and laptop penetration in the country are growing at a phenomenal rate of over 20 percent per annum respectively, giving us tremendous potential to jointly tap and offer value to our customers,” said Vrajesh Shelat, head, Wireless Data Business, Reliance Communications. “This alliance with Dell, together with the footprint of Reliance will further catalyse the growth of PC and Internet penetration, especially beyond the top cities in the country,” he added.

NetConnect Broadband Plus has a downlink speed of upto 3.1 Mbps and a separate uplink speed of upto 1.8 Mbps. The NetConnect Broadband Plus service is currently available in 35 cities with seamless handover to high speed 1x service covering 20,000 towns and 4+ lakh villages as well as all major road and rail routes across the country.

For the customers who prefer to use 1XCDMA service, Dell will make available its range of notebooks/ netbooks bundled with 1XCDMA service option from Reliance as well.
