To deliver a high performance, highly reliable and flexible solution that could scale to meet steep increases in freight and passenger traffic, The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), implemented Oracle Tuxedo and Oracle WebLogic Server for its Freight Operations Information System (FOIS).
As the key provider of Information Systems to the Indian Railways (IR), the primary transportation organisation in India, CRIS needed systems that could efficiently and reliably process more than 800 million tons of freight and better manage the aggressive growth in freight volume, which have grown by 50% in the past 5 years.
The FOIS uses Oracle Tuxedo for distributed transaction processing and Oracle WebLogic Server for reporting. The new system has allowed CRIS to support this growth in freight business without increasing the overall number of freight wagons.
With over 99% uptime, the FOIS system delivers uninterrupted services to its 2000 connected users, while also integrating with a payment gateway with several leading banks in the country, delivering over 40% of freight revenue instantly. The number of transactions is expected to grow nearly 10% every year.
