KLG Systel has recently launched Connectgaia, a Web based solution to pinpoint energy wasteful practices in the organisation. Connectgaia is a worldwide intelligent network that keeps a tab on the organisation’s power consumption, and measures, visualises, analyses, controls and helps save electricity consumption across the enterprise. The solution has been deployed on IBM’s SOA platform. Interacting with Biztech2, Kumud Goel, MD, KLG Systel throws more light on Connectgaia.
Can you take us through the stages of evaluation and tests Connectgaia underwent before going live?
The Connectgaia hardware ‘gaiaeco’ and gaiacell’ have been built using the most advanced microprocessor and metering technologies available in industry. The hardware is IP55 compliant. Being intelligent devices, they have the capability of communicating with thousands of sensors – temperature, pressure, flow, CO2 level, humidity, etc.
Starting from the business requirements inputs to its production, professional tools and methods have been used to build the product. We have used high end tools from IBM to do analysis, design, development and testing of the product. At each step, we have also critically evaluated the design using inputs from industry experts. The design reviews and system modelling have been done in close co-ordination with IBM product experts.
How does the Connectgaia technology work?
The technology for Connectgaia can broadly be classified into two main categories - hardware which comprises of ‘gaiaeco’ and ‘gaiacell’ units with one inlet and multiple outlets and software which comprises of the web interface – www.connectgaia.com.
The hardware comprising of ‘gaiaeco’ and ‘gaiacell’ units will be connected directly to the three phase utility supply after the electricity meter. The outlets would be separately hooked with the existing electrical network. The ‘gaiaeco’ and ‘gaiacell’ outlets are connected to digital switches enabling you to switch power on or off remotely.
To facilitate data transmission between ‘gaiaeco’ and the website, a GPRS modem is built into the product. In order to measure, visualise, analyse, control and save the energy consumption, you simply need to login to your personalised user account. Information stored in the database will be accessible to you in clear graphical as well as textual format. You will be able to draw clear inferences from the information enabling you to manage the energy usage.
In case of multiple installations across different geographical locations, is Connectgaia equipped to give an integrated picture of power consumption?
Connectgaia works through one or more intelligent devices installed at premises based on an organisation’s business requirement, geographical/administrative entities and its metering and wiring control points. Being a web-based solution, it empowers the end user to use it from any where across the world and caters to the requirement of multi location offices and industrial units.
The solution helps to not only get an integrated picture of power consumption but goes beyond that by being able to measure, visualise, analyse, control and save in real-time, anywhere, anytime – across the enterprise with the network of connectgaia.com units namely “gaiaeco” and “gaiacell”.
Using connectgaia.com, users can monitor important electrical parameters such as voltage, current, power factor, frequency, consumption, load etc. They can make comparison of the actual consumption vis-à-vis the planned consumption and accordingly generate a summary concluding the savings. The users would be able to compare different values/parameters etc. between different days/weeks/months and years. This would give the flexibility to compare data without restricting thoughts.
How will Connectgaia benefit SMBs and large enterprises?
As an end-to-end energy management solution, Connectgaia provides many advantages. From simple utilitarian benefits to the efficient management of complex power consuming businesses, Connectgaia will translate into different advantages for different people.
Connectgaia equips real time power consumption management through web-based ( www.connectgaia.com) information. Some of the important decisions that can be taken working on the information could be to identify energy efficient measures, remote switching on and off of equipment, machinery or appliances, scheduling power consumption during major events, real time generation of alarms and user prompts. It also monitors and protects against power theft, ensures utilities comply with power delivery service levels, presents a case for discrepancies in billing, detects the need for load shedding, etc.
