A recent virtualisation survey found that Capacity Management software alleviates the challenges associated with managing virtual systems.
The survey, commissioned by TeamQuest, a provider of IT Service Optimisation (ITSO) software, also took a close look at tools used to manage virtual systems, how soon organisations will invest in these tools and the highest priority for investing in IT Service Optimisation tools.
The survey report can be viewed at http://www.teamquest.com/pdfs/whitepaper/ovum.pdf.
“IT managers understand the positive impact Capacity Management practices can have on virtualised environments,” said Scott Adams, director of Product Management, TeamQuest. “The ability to accurately predict, plan and manage capacity and performance is essential to realising the full benefit of virtualised systems.”
Survey results show that organisations realise that virtualisation – without proper planning, management and service optimisation capabilities – leads to performance headaches that limit the potential for real business advantage.
For example, nearly 40 percent of enterprise respondents experienced with virtual systems cited bottlenecks that impact performance as one of their top three challenges in deploying virtual systems.
More than a third of large enterprises cited maintaining appropriate security levels, properly sizing virtual machines, and ensuring that they can handle expected and unexpected workloads as common challenges.
Organisations using TeamQuest software to manage virtual systems enjoy the ability to analyse the utilisation of different resources; monitor the hypervisor; monitor the activities within each individual guest or virtual server; understand how the virtual systems are behaving relative to each other and the hypervisor and comprehend the contention among virtual machines for shared resources.
“IT leaders are searching for tools that can optimise their virtualised environments and deliver ongoing IT and business benefits essential for the future success of their organisations,” said Ovum Research Director John Madden. “Virtualisation will play an integral role as the data centre evolves into a dynamic piece of the business.”
