C-DAC Launches Five Open Source Products

The Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) has launched five new open source products for the small-medium businesses (SMBs) and the government departments in the country. The five products, Bharat Operating Systems Solutions (BOSS), e-SAVYA, Area Traffic Control System (ATCS), Network@Guard Enterprise Edition and Bangla-Assamese-Manipuri Speech Corpora, are designed to enable the SMB customers leverage cost effective open source platforms to conduct their business. BOSS has been developed at the National Resource Centre for Free and Open Source Software (NRCFOSS) of C-DAC and is targeted at government users, kiosks and SMEs.

C-DAC Launches Five Open Source Products

The Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) has launched five new open source products for the small-medium businesses (SMBs) and the government departments in the country.

The five products, Bharat Operating Systems Solutions (BOSS), e-SAVYA, Area Traffic Control System (ATCS), Network@Guard Enterprise Edition and Bangla-Assamese-Manipuri Speech Corpora, are designed to enable the SMB customers leverage cost effective open source platforms to conduct their business.

BOSS has been developed at the National Resource Centre for Free and Open Source Software (NRCFOSS) of C-DAC and is targeted at government users, kiosks and SMEs. It consists of the Linux operating system kernel, office application software suite BharateeyaOO, Internet access software (e.g. web browser, e-mail, chat etc.), and file sharing / converter and multimedia applications. The desktop environment and applications have been localized to enable the use of Indian languages.

e-SAVYA is designed as an affordable supply chain management system for the SME Sector to enable it to achieve greater coordination and collaboration among their supply chain partners.

This web based solution has a range of components that include inventory management, sales, procurement, shipping and receiving and user management.

The C-DAC Area Traffic Control System (ATCS) is a fully adaptive road traffic control system that uses data from vehicle detectors and optimizes traffic signal settings in an area to reduce vehicle delays and stops. The control system operates in real time with the capacity to calculate the optimal cycle times, effective green time ratios, and change intervals for all system traffic signal controllers connected to it. The solution has already been in use in Pune since Feb’06.

The Network at Guard: Enterprise Security Solution (N@G-ESS) addresses the issues of securing end systems. It is based on a distributed architecture, which includes data collector, analyzer and sensor entities for addressing scalability issues. It comprises of various components including Threat Profiling, Alert Fusion, Event and Alert Correlation and Incidence Analysis.

C-DAC’s Speech Corpora is a collection of Annotated Speech Corpora for Bangla, Assamese and Manipuri. The annotated speech corpora gains importance as the development of Speech Technology and Acoustic Phonetics Research of different languages demands large speech databases.
