Daiwa Capital Markets Leverages IBM's WAR For DR

IBM has announced that it has signed an agreement with Daiwa Capital Markets India Pvt. Ltd., an investment banking company that offers integrated financial services, to help it with the recovery of their work environment by leveraging IBMs Work Area Recovery (WAR) solution, while also offering round the clock technical support. The new IT set-up will act as an alternate back-up site from where business operations could resume and function even during disruptions that may arise due to unforeseen circumstances.

Daiwa was interested in an alternate work place to mitigate the risk in the event its primary office became unavailable. As part of its compliance plan, the company needed an enclosure with dedicated seats which would help maintain confidentiality and physical security of the work area. With dedicated seats, Daiwa was assured of lower turnaround times and could also customise the seat allocation.

“In the highly competitive capital markets sector, where our business is dependent on our ability to process larger number of financial transactions continuously to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) as well as cater to sudden spikes in trading, any unplanned downtime can mean significant financial losses, besides important intangibles like loss of reputation and damage to brand value. Also, we did not want to invest in building an alternate work area and keep it unused till disaster strikes. Choosing IBM’s infrastructure recovery services not only ensures an alternate work environment to minimise loss of employee productivity and meets our implicit need for continuous operations, but also helps in increasing our risk tolerance while giving us the flexibility to deal with our mission-critical operations,” Sammeer Saurabbh, Executive Director – IT, Daiwa Capital Markets.

This unique proposition from IBM will add value to Daiwa’s overall business strategy by employing rigorous health and safety standards along with best practices from IBM that offers fit-outs and IT equipment as a service. IBM will be managing Daiwa’s disaster recovery project while conducting periodic disaster recovery drills with the company to ensure compliance to internal as well as regulatory norms.

“In a global economy, as the number of natural as well as manmade disruptions is on the rise, work area recovery is a key part of a business continuity plan. Today, businesses are increasingly affected by the regulatory environment and need to maintain high levels of availability and disaster preparedness. Through our Infrastructure Recovery Services, we are providing a comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity solution to Daiwa to meet their continuity requirements and also enable their employees to stay productive at all times,“ said KS Raghunandan, Director, Integrated Technology Services, Global Technology Services IBM India/South Asia.
