CA Technologies Simplifies Data Protection For Linux

CA Technologies has announced CA ARCserve D2D for Linux, providing fast, simple data protection and disaster recovery for businesses running virtual and physical servers on the popular open source platform.

An image-based solution, CA ARCserve D2D for Linux helps organisations protect the integrity and availability of critical systems, applications and data within their shrinking backup windows. It complements CA ARCserve D2D for Microsoft Windows, providing a complete solution for today’s heterogeneous environments.

“Long periods of downtime or data loss can have a devastating impact on businesses who are already struggling to keep up with their ever-changing IT environment,” said Jindøich Rosièka, technical director at IS4 Technologies, an IT solutions and services provider based in the Czech Republic. “CA ARCserve D2D for Linux has the speed and reliability that our customers need to meet their demanding business requirements. We also plan to use the solution to protect our own Linux servers.”

CA ARCserve D2D for Linux provides fast and frequent backups to meet today’s demanding recovery point objectives. The solution’s flexible recovery options reduce business downtime and support fast recovery time objectives. In addition, built-in data security supports diverse compliance requirements.

CA ARCserve data compression reduces backup-related storage requirements and costs. Unattended bare-metal recovery enables systems to quickly and easily be restored to similar or dissimilar physical or virtual servers—giving customers much greater flexibility when it comes to recovery infrastructure. Granular recovery allows individual file restoration from any recovery point image.

“Our customers need fast, cost-effective backup software that is easy-to-use and delivers true business value,” said Stephen Lawlor, senior storage and virtualisation consultant at Cristie Data Ltd, a leading UK-based provider of data storage and management solutions. “We were extremely pleased with how CA ARCserve D2D for Linux performed during rigorous testing in a Centos environment. It worked flawlessly and intuitively with each and every restoration scenario we threw at it—while also offering superior value.”

Users access CA ARCserve D2D for Linux through an easy-to-use Web 2.0 console that enables hassle-free, automated agent installation, as well as centralised management, configuration and reporting of all protected Linux servers.

CA ARCserve D2D for Linux can be licensed individually on a per-server (or virtual machine) basis. It also is included in CA ARCserve managed capacity (per-Terabyte) and virtual server per-socket offerings. In addition to IT organisations, it is ideal for resellers and service providers seeking to add cost-effective Linux data protection to their service offerings.

“IT has to aggressively reduce the amount of time and effort they spend protecting mission-critical systems, including those powered by Linux,” said Steve Fairbanks, vice president, Product Delivery, Data Management, CA Technologies. “CA ARCserve empowers our customers to fulfill their most pressing recovery objectives with a single, cross-platform solution and licensing options tailored to achieve maximum return on investment.”

CA ARCserve D2D for Linux supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x and 6.x, as well as CentOS 5.x and 6.x. CA ARCserve backup, replication and high availability solutions also support Linux.
