Fujitsu, Citrix Forge Desktop Virtualisation Partnership

Fujitsu Technology Solutions and Citrix Systems have announced an OEM agreement that expands the relationship between the two companies to help customers reduce the cost and complexity of implementing a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) for enterprise customers.

Under terms of the agreement, Fujitsu will expand its portfolio of virtual workplace infrastructure solutions, a key part of its vision of providing customers with Dynamic Infrastructures. Fujitsu will integrate Citrix XenDesktop with ‘high definition’ HDX technology into its virtual workplace solutions, giving customers a rich, personalised virtual desktop experience for end users in any location. Fujitsu also announced plans to add Citrix XenServer virtualisation to its PRIMERGY rack and blade server offerings. This will add an extra benefit, especially to customers already working with Citrix XenApp. Citrix XenDesktop will be one of the key enabling technologies for Fujitsu’s Virtual Workplace and Managed Virtual Workplace product and service offerings.

“Desktop virtualisation is one of the primary focus areas in Fujitsu’s Dynamic Infrastructures vision,” said Dieter Herzog, Executive Vice President, Technology Solutions Portfolio at Fujitsu Technology Solutions. “Our goal is to partner with the leading technology innovators in each market segment, providing our customers with best-in-class solutions and services. Thanks to its deep technology expertise in desktop virtualisation, Citrix was a natural partner for our Virtual Workplace and Managed Virtual Workplace product and services offering. By combining Fujitsu hardware with Citrix desktop virtualisation software, we are delivering comprehensive products and services that help customers quickly and cost-effectively take advantage of the switch to a centralised desktop management and delivery.”

As part of the broad agreement, Fujitsu’s PRIMERGY RX and BX servers are also now certified for Citrix XenServer. In addition, XenServer and the Citrix Essentials for XenServer virtualisation management offering will be integrated with Fujitsu PRIMERGY server management.

“We look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Fujitsu and extending our work into both the desktop and datacenter virtualisation markets,” said AJ Jennings, Vice President of Business Development for Citrix. “Fujitsu’s virtual workplace infrastructure solutions, powered by Citrix XenDesktop with HDX technology, can dramatically reduce desktop management costs while giving end users an unparalleled high definition experience. In the datacentre, Citrix XenServer gives customers all the power of an enterprise-class, cloud-proven virtual datacenter at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions.”
