UTStarcom, Inc. announced a partnership with Ruckus Wireless to provide wireless IPTV solutions in India. Through this association, UTStarcom will use Ruckus’ MediaFlex series of products to address the challenges faced by the IPTV service providers, whenever IPTV solutions are installed at homes.
While Wi-Fi is widely recognised as the home networking technology of choice, concerns expressed by certain carriers regarding inconsistent performance, interference, insufficient range and unreliable signal quality for Video traffic had prevented carriers from using the technology to distribute in-home real-time TV services. Many service providers have opted to manually wire subscriber homes with ethernet or cable, resulting in high installation costs, long installation times and slow subscriber acquisition. Ruckus Wireless MediaFlex product series are specially designed for in-home wireless HD IPTV and triple play service distribution.
Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Vijay Yadav, Managing Director, UTStarcom, said, “Awareness and adoption of IPTV has been gradually increasing in India. UTStarcom being the clear leader in broadband and IPTV in India deems it an important responsibility to contribute proactively to the growth of the industry and address the challenges and provide value added services to its customers. In-house cabling is a very important concern faced by the IPTV service providers and through this partnership, the service providers will be able to solve this issue and enhance consumer experience.”
“Ruckus wireless MediaFlex series is specifically developed for operators to distribute multiple streams of HD IPTV content throughout a subscriber’s home without costly and time-consuming cable installation. Through this association, UTStarcom will sell MediaFlex products as part of its IPTV solution to its customers,” said Mr. Sudarshan Boosupalli, General Manager - India Operations, Ruckus Wireless.
