Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has selected Alphion GPON technology for the deployment of next-generation multiple play FTTx services in the western and southern zones of India. The initial BSNL contract for the Alphion GPON equipment, the first phase in a multi-year program, will provide services to 259,000 Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) subscribers.
The Alphion GPON product family consists of state-of-the-art Optical Line Terminal, Optical Network Terminals, and Passive Optical Splitters. The Alphion Optical Line Terminal offers 40 protectable GPON ports per shelf, a redundant 200 gigabit per second backplane, and 56 gigabit per second uplink capacity.
The solution supports PON architectures with path and equipment redundancy, and includes Optical Network Terminals for single family residences, small businesses, and multiple dwelling units.
Dr Bharat P Dave, Alphion chairman, president and CEO, said, “Alphion is fully committed to supporting the roll-out of GPON equipment in India. This initial contract is the first phase of BSNL’s planned multi-year deployment of GPON networks and our deliveries of Alphion equipment, the first GPON shipments in India, are well underway.”
