BlackBerry offering BES 10 as a hosted service

In a bid to continue its hold in the enterprise space, BlackBerry has announced a new service that will help provide customers more choices and flexibility. The company's money-generating mobility management service, BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) 10, will now be available as a hosted service through third-party partners.

With this, customers can enjoy the benefits of BlackBerry's enterprise mobility management (EMM) with its extensive security capabilities along with the convenience of hosted IT administration.

With BES10 Hosted, hosting partners can provide customers with easy-to-manage iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices with BlackBerry's security and support in order to meet each customers' mobile business requirements, the company said.

"BlackBerry's BES10 Hosted is focused on providing more choices and flexibility in how enterprise customers can manage their mobile environments," said John Sims, president of enterprise services, BlackBerry.

The hosted service will provide a self-service portal for authentication and device management, and the partners' hosting will be backed by BlackBerry's techical support. The service supports container options for all supported devices -- built-in BlackBerry Balance for BB10 devices, and Secure Work Space for iOS and Android.

There are also application management capabilities, including the ability to ensure device compliance, distribute apps, and centrally manage apps through app catalogues and software configuration profiles. This hosted service also offers unified console to manage existing BlackBerry OS devices as well as BlackBerry 10, iOS and Android devices.

BES10 Hosted is a scalable solution that can be leveraged by small businesses to global enterprises alike, the company said.

Hosting partners will also be able to offer silver and gold tiers of BES10 to meet the security, device and application management needs of their customers.

In addition to BES10 Hosted, the company also introduced 10 new enterprise apps for Secure Work Space for iOS and Android, BlackBerry's containerisation and secure connectivity option that delivers a higher level of control and security to iOS and Android devices, all managed through BES10.
