One of India’s most respected CIOs is on the move. Arun Gupta, CIO of pharma major Cipla has announced that he is leaving the company at the end of July. This was Gupta’s second stint as a CIO in the pharma sector, having earlier worked in the CIO as wellas businessroles at Pfizer. He also has had significant experience driving IT for India’s retail sector, leading technology retail major Shoppers Stop, Hypercity, etc, besides being a leading thought leader for retail technology at the Retailers Association of India.
At Cipla Mr Gupta came to a company with disparate IT systems which were far behind the technology curve and he ran multiple massive projects in parallel to bring Cipla up to speed when it came to technology. “The result has been that Cipla is today in the forefront of technology use in the pharma industry. The ball is rolling and the momentum will keep the team busy and the company seeing the benefit to the business from the best of technologies,” he said.
Although Mr Gupta did not give any details on his next move, he said that the “new journey will definitely be different in a different way.”
Mr Gupta is a recipient of many CIO awards and has also been awarded CIO of the Year as part of the CIO Masters series of awards instituted by Biztech2.com, now a part of Firstbiz.
