Akamai Advances Its 'Intelligent Platform'

Akamai Technologies, the cloud platform for enabling secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere, has unveiled wide-ranging technology advancements to its Akamai Intelligent Platform. Akamai demonstrated new solutions for application acceleration from the enterprise to the cloud, mobile site acceleration and adaptation, security, and the monetisation and distribution of rich media – all designed specifically to meet the evolving requirements of doing business in a hyper-connected world.

The emergence of the hyper-connected world has presented new technology challenges for businesses as they strive to deliver content and applications to customers, partners, suppliers and employees, independent of user device or physical location. The Akamai Intelligent Platform is designed to mitigate the challenges of operating in a hyper-connected world by providing a single platform over which businesses can engage users across the Web, mobile, cloud, or a mix of public and private network environments.

“Users no longer ‘go online’ in the hyper-connected world, they are always online, and businesses of all types need effective solutions to reach these users with content and applications across any experience, any device, anywhere. The Akamai Intelligent Platform offers a powerful, unified solution to how enterprises can architect their businesses for the future,” said Tom Leighton, chief scientist of Akamai.

Akamai now offers the ability to embed cloud optimisation services into leading public cloud computing platforms to provide a unified and simple-to-configure offering for users leveraging the cloud. In addition, Akamai has extended its global platform into corporate datacentres as users increasingly reach-out to the cloud when accessing applications on private networks. Building on relationships with IBM, to accelerate WebSphere applications in the datacentre across the public Internet, and with Riverbed Technology, to extend Akamai’s edge from close proximity to the datacentre to directly within the enterprise, Akamai is securing and optimising applications that traverse both public and private networks.

Akamai has also taken steps to expand its capabilities to help customers build mobile sites more quickly. It has completed the integration of its fully managed mobile adaptation solution and is announcing a new partnership withNetbiscuits for developers and sites that require additional levels of selfservice and control.

Akamai’s TV Everywhere solution is comprised of high quality delivery, content security, sophisticated analytics, and identity services. Its cloud-based approach offers a simple, standardised integration across platforms and devices to securely connect programmer content libraries with operator subscribers, as well as technology to ensure consumers have a consistent and continuous viewing experience that flows seamlessly from device to device.

Akamai is also announcing the general availability of its integrated Media Analytics product suite, allowing content providers to synchronise viewers’ Quality of Experience with audience engagement statistics for the first time. This extends their visibility into how content, quality and packaging decisions impact their audience and delivers insights for the best ways to create and deliver “sticky” content.
