Chauhan’s appointment has been heavily criticised by current students and alumnus of the institute. Students have been boycotting classes, abandoning academic work in protest against Chauhan’s appointment, who they allege, lacks “stature and vision” to head the institution. Earlier, Rishi’s son Ranbir Kapoor had come out in support of the agitating students. “I don’t think what the students are asking for is illogical, all they are asking for is to give them a fair chance a fair opportunity, correct faculty, correct syllabus. I really do pray that an institute that we all are so proud of and seen such great personalties emerge from… Shouldn’t be a disappointment for student and future students,” the actor had said. “And if someone had to be chosen for political reasons then there was Hema Malini, or Shatrughan Sinha or Paresh Rawal. If he (Chauhan) has any common sense he will voluntarily resign,” ANI quoted Rishi Kapoor as saying. Speaking to Times Now, Rishi Kapoor wondered what kind of relationship Chauhan would have with his students when his appointment was ‘so badly received.’ “I have nothing against Gajendra Chauhan. My point is how will be be received at FTII when everyone is against his appointment…Chauhan must command respect, not demand it. Let self-pride play a role,” he said. Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan and veteran actor Anupam Kher also came out in support of the students and backed them over their demand for revoking the appointment Chauhan. “I personally feel that FTII represents a certain art form… it does need a person who has a great body of work. Certainly FTII needs somebody who is much more qualified than whatever Gajendra ji’s qualifications are coming across,” Kher, 60, said during an event in Chandigarh on Thursday. With PTI inputs
