Renault Kwid bookings start in India

Bookings for Renault’s upcoming small car, the Kwid, have started in India. Few Renault dealers in the country have started accepting bookings for the Kwid. Depending on the region, dealers have been asking for a booking amount of Rs 25,000-45,000.

The Renault Kwid hatchback was first displayed in concept form at the 2014 Auto Expo. It was unveiled in production form a couple of months ago in India. The car was code-named XBA and is based on the CMF-A platform that Renault-Nissan have developed for low cost cars. From few angles, the car looks like a mini-SUV with a side cladding and elevated ride height. A first for a small car in India, is the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well as airbags as an option.

Renault have built an all-new 800cc 3-cylinder petrol engine for the Kwid. It is speculated that this engine will make around 50PS of power and will be mated to a manual transmission at the onset. Renault have also been developing an AMT for the Kwid and this may come in at a later stage. The fuel economy, the company claims, will be far higher than its immediate competition.

The icing on the cake will be that the Kwid will be priced at around Rs 3-4lakh and is expected to be launched in India next month.
