Nissan puts GT-R LM NISMO's WEC return on hold

The expectations were high, but the results disappointing. No wonder then that Nissan has put on hold their 2015 World Endurance Championship campaign. Following the dismal performance of the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, Nissan has chosen to focus on testing their LMP1 car further before it takes to the tracks again for active competition.

Of the three LMP1 cars that Nissan took to the Circuit de la Sarthe for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, not one managed to cross the finish line. Trouble with the cars’ Energy Recovery Systems (ERS) meant that they needed to rely on engine power alone, which hampered their performance considerably.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

“We know people will be disappointed but be assured that nobody is more disappointed than us,” stated Shoichi Miyatani, President of Nissan NISMO. “We are racers and we want to compete but we also want to be competitive. That is why we have chosen to continue our test programme and prepare the GT-R LM NISMO for the strong competition we face in the World Endurance Championship."

Nissan will now conduct an exhaustive testing programme in the United States of America before deciding on the future of their LMP1 campaign. It could well be back to the drawing board for the Ben Bowlby-designed front-engined LMP1 car.
