The MMSC Race Fest 2015 came to an end this weekend at the Buddh International Circuit. The event hosted the final rounds of the TVS and Suzuki One-Make Championships, the fourth round of the Honda One-Make Championship and the first and only round of the Toyota Etios Motor Racing Trophy. Kevin Schwantz, the 1993 GP500 world champion, was present at the event.
In the Suzuki Gixxer Cup, Ananth Raj won the Open category title with one race to spare after his fifth place finish on Saturday. Meka Vidhuraj won both races that weekend, while Kamlesh P Thakur took second in both. In the Novice category, Vishwadev Muraleedharan took the title after a double-win that weekend while Amarnath Menon, his closest rival, managed just one podium finish in the final round.
“Obviously, I am extremely happy to win the championship in my very first full season of racing. It was very competitive right through the season, but I put in consistent performances to win the title. I plan to move to the Asian Road Racing Championship next year, but a lot will depend on securing sponsorship,” says Muraleedharan.
Sarath Kumar won the championship title in the Honda CBR250 Open class, with one whole round to spare. Winning both races, he extended his lead to 65 points ahead of Sumit Lucas Toppo. In the CBR150 Novice class, Aravind Balakrishnan closed the gap between him and championship leader Sivanesan S, after a double-win. Sivanesan crashed in the second race after winning the first one on Saturday. Balakrishnan and Sivanesan now lead the scoreboard with 141 points each.
In the TVS RTR 180 Open category, Kannan S stood seven points behind the championship leader, Aravind Ganesh, after winning the first race of the weekend. However, Kannan sealed the deal by claiming the title after winning the second race and scoring 116 points in all. Akhanda Pratap Singh took the TVS RTR 180 Novice class championship title after winning the first race and finishing sixth in the second one. The second race was cut short to three laps after an on-track incident.
The Toyota Etios Motor Racing Trophy came back for its third season with just one round. It comprised of four races and the competitor with the most wins took the championship. This time, it was Hisham EKP who took the title after winning three of the four races.
