Hyundai India launches the Creta at Rs 8.59 lakh

Hyundai India finally launches the highly-awaited Creta at Rs 8.59 lakh (ex-Delhi). This SUV is Hyundai’s response to the Duster and Terrano which came from the Renault-Nissan alliance. It will also face tough competition from the soon to be released Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and proven competitors such as the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra Scorpio.

This Hyundai Creta is quite a looker and  when we drove it recently, we found that it performed rather impressively. What really makes the Creta tempting is that a lot of essential features are available right from the lower trims. A customer does not have to shell out close to a substantial extra for airbags, steering mounted controls or even a rear defogger. Hyundai has even offered a touchscreen infotainment system right from the second trim up. Predominantly, these features are found only on the top of the line trims. For this reason, the Creta bags the value-for-money prize which in-turn is bound to bag a whole lot of customers.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The Creta will be offered in 6 trims and three engine variants"1.6-litre diesel and petrol engines along with a 1.4-litre diesel engine. The diesel engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual gear box with the 1.6-litre variant getting an optional automatic. The petrol engine will be coupled with just a 5-speed transmission though. The engines are taken right out of the Verna which shouldn’t be anything to worry about as it has been tried and tested among Indian customers. Unlike the Duster however, this SUV is more of a soft-roader than an off-roader. But to the average Indian who drives around in the city or takes the family out on a vacation every now and then, the Creta should be more than sufficient in terms of safety, comfort and power.
