As it happened: Mishra hat-trick wins it for Sunrisers

1924 IST

Warriors collapsed in abject fashion. Mishra finished with 4-0-19-4, with all of those wickets coming in the last over. That was stunning. Plenty for the Pune think-tank to ponder.

That is also it from us. But stick around for the 8 pm game between Royals and Mumbai Indians. Sreesanth and Harbhajan go head-to-head.

1914 IST

Warriors are coming apart here. Mishra raps Bhuvi Kumar on the front pad and after considering it, the umpire raises his finger. That ball didn’t spin at all. Bhuvi played for the turn. Might have missed leg though.

TWO IN TWO! Rahul Sharma slogs wildly and misses. Mishra doesn’t.

Sharma b Mishra 0 (1b 0x4 0x6).

That is Mishra’s third wicket in the over from four balls and he is on a hat-trick.

HAT-TRICK! Dinda has no idea about the googly. Pitches just outside off and spins back to crash into the stumps. That is four wickets in five ball for Mishra and Sunrisers have pulled off a heist in Pune.

Warriors collapsed in startling fashion - the third in three matches after KKR and RCB yesterday. Just what is being served in the water at the IPL these days?

1912 IST

Mishra has the task of bowling the 19th over.

OUT! The pressure tells on the captain. He takes a swipe at a legspinner but gets under it and Steyn takes a comfortable catch at long-off. 107/7 now and Sunrisers are still in this.

Mathews c Steyn b Mishra 20 (24b 1x4 0x6).

1906 IST

Perera to bowl the 18th over.

OUT! Nayar gone for a duck. Lobs a simple catch to mid-on. PWI are 101/6 and suddenly a little tension creeping in.

Nayar c Samantray b Perera 0 (2b 0x4 0x6)

Pandey eases the pressure by pulling Perera through midwicket for four. At the end of 18, PWI are 106/6, needing 14 from the final two overs.

1903 IST

Steyn is the last throw of the dice for Sunrisers. First ball is too short and Marsh is quick to rock back and pull him past mid-on for four. Another bouncer follows. Don’t understand the strategy here. The single brings up Warriors 100.

OUT! The short stuff works. This one is too quick for Marsh and he can’t get on top of it. Skies a catch to deep square leg. He screams in agony. He knows he fell for the trap. PWI are 101/5 after 17 .

SIX! Marsh gives Mishra the charge and smashes him inside-out over extra-cover. That was fiercely struck. PWI into the 90s now and the target down under 30.

After 16 overs, PWI are 95/4. 25 to get from 24 balls.

1853 IST

Sharma gets one to to rip past Mathews bat. Turn and bounce. Where did that come from?

Mathews has enough of nudging the ball and goes for the slog sweep. It is hit too hard for the man at deep midwicket and takes one bounce over the ropes. That is the first boundary for 8 overs. Yes, 8.

After 15 overs, PWI are 87/4 with Marsh on 2 and Mathews on 18.

1849 IST

The run-rate as crept above six an over. It was under for most of the innings. Mathews and Mitchell Marsh need to build a partnership here. There were two spectacular collapses yesterday and this Warriors batting line-up is shaky as it is.

Marsh is drawn out of his crease by Mishra but gets his foot back before the keeper can take off the bails. After 14 overs, Warriors are 80/4.

1844 IST

Sharma continues. Both batsmen are down the track to combat any spin but not trying anything fancy. A couple of singles is what they settle for. After 10 overs, Warriors are 73/3.

Ishant is back for his final over.

OUT! Smith rocks back to pull but isn’t in the right position and can’t get his bat round fast enough. The ball is skied to deep backward square, where the fielder takes the catch inches from the rope, then looks back to make sure he has stayed inbounds. PWI now 76/4 after 12.3 overs and that spices things up a bit.

Smith c Ashish Reddy b I Sharma 17 (25b 0x4 0x6)

1836 IST

Perera to bowl to his national captain Mathews. A couple of twos and a couple of singles as six comes from the over. After 11, PWI are 71/3.

1833 IST

White bring back Steyn. They need a few more wickets if they are to make a match of this. His strike-bowler has not delivered so far today. He has been too short today. Bhuvi Kumar got his wickets pitching the ball up. Steyn has not found the right length. Six from the over. After 10, PWI are 65/3. They need another 55 runs from 10 overs.

1824 IST

Mishra comes on and Smith and Suman milk him for singles off every ball. KV Sharma the other legspinner comes on as well.

OUT! Suman is stunned. He is well forward in defence to one from Sharma that doesn’t turn but after thinking about it, the umpire raises his finger. Suman looks back to see where he was but he has to go. PWI are 57/3 after 8.3 overs.

Suman lbw b KV Sharma 12 (14b 1x4 0x6).

1818 IST

Perera continues at the other end. Replays show the deep square-leg fielder did not move while the bowler ran in to Uthappa. No idea what was bothering him then. Suman manages to get a glove on a Perera bouncer and that is enough to take it over the keeper and away to the boundary. Eight from the over.

After 7 overs, PWI are 49/2.

Ishant switches ends and looks a different bowler. Suman on the defensive. Two runs from it. After 6 overs, Warriors are 41/2.

1811 IST

Perera is on a hat-trick. Finch tries to force him off the back foot but hits it straight to point. That is another soft dismissal.

Finch c de Kock b Perera 16 (13b 3x4 0x6)

Steve Smith calmly leaves the outswinging hat-trick ball alone.

After 5 overs, PWI are 39/2 with two new batsman at the crease.

1806 IST

Thisara Perera replaces Ishant.

OUT! Uthappa holes out to deep square leg but he is not happy about something. He is gesturing and speaking and turning back as he walks off the field. Maybe Uthappa thinks the fielder moved after the bowler began his run-up. It doesn’t matter because he has to go. PWI are 38/1.

Uthappa c Samantray b Perera 22 (14b 4x4 0x6).

1800 IST

Luck going Warriors way too. Steyn beats Finch with one that moves away as the batsman tries to flick it to leg. But the outside edge flies over the infield cordon on the offside and away to the boundary. There was no luck involved in the first boundary of the over though. Finch drove on the up and it raced past the covers.

Ten from the over. After 4, Warriors are 38/0.

1800 IST

Ishant comes in for the same treatment from Uthappa. First a short delivery is crunched through point. Then a full delivery is driven handsomely down the ground. That was vintage Uthappa. Nine come from the over and Warriors are 28/0 after 2. Uthappa is on 22 from 12 and Finch on 6 from 6.

1757 IST

Welcome back to the chase. Warriors have started brightly. Worryingly for Sunrisers, it Steyen that has had the poor first over. Uthappa flicked him twice to the legside for two fours and a triple. Ishant opened the bowling and gave away 7 runs from the first over.

After 2 overs, Warriors are 19/0.

1732 IST

Dinda to bowl the final over. This can’t be a good thing for Warriors.

And it isn’t. 14 runs came from the over. Mishra crunched him through mid-off and Steyn smacked the last ball down the ground for another boundary.

Mishra did manage to get himself run out off the second last ball of the innings, but it didn’t hurt the visitors.

Sunrisers post 119/8, which is actually a very good recovery from 44/6.

1725 IST

Finally a boundary. Mishra cheekily opens the face and guides a Dinda short ball over and wide of the keeper. After 18 overs, Sunrisers are 93/7.

Mathews continues and Reddy decides it is time to have a go. Gives himself room and smacks the bowler over long-off for SIX! That takes Sunrisers past 100 when it didn’t look like they would get there.

After 19 overs, Sunrisers are 105/7.

1717 IST

After 16 overs, Sunrisers are 81/7, with Mishra on 13 and Ashish Reddy on 3. Mathews comes on to bowl the 17th over. Just five from it. Sunrisers can’t afford to take risks with just three wickets left. They are better served playing out all 20 overs then going for their shots and getting out. After 17, they are 86/7.

1709 IST

WICKET! Sharma gets another. Samantray has played well to this point but has to force the pace and holes out to long-off, who comes forward to take a good catch low to the ground.

Samantray c Pandey b Sharma 37 (37b 3x4 1x6)

Sunrisers now 75/7 after 15 overs and in a whole heap of trouble.

1700: Samantray plays the perfect cut-shot for four before hammering a full-toss for six. Slightly lifts the gloom in the SRH dugout.

1655: Wicket! Perera c Uthappa b Marsh 2 (4b, 0x4, 0x6): Tell you what, Pune just cannot fail to win this match. Perera is caught behind trying to dissect the gap on offside. SRH are now 44/6 after 10.4 overs

1650: Wicket! KV Sharma lbw b Sharma 7 (13b, 0x4, 0x6): It’s getting worse for Hyderabad. Rahul Sharma gets his first wicket, trapping KV Sharma - who has been looking jittery since he arrived at the crease.

SRH are 41/5 after 9.2 overs.

1642: It seems that the Sunrisers have lost all heart. They have managed just 41 runs in nine overs - which is dismal in T20 terms. But all credit to Pune - their bowling and fielding has been very disciplined. Samantray has managed to score another four through the third-man region but this one is surely going to be a low-scoring match.

1635: Samantray gets the first boundary of the innings - taking the route over mid-wicket. SRH are 30-4 after 7 overs with Samantray (8) and Sharma (4) batting. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been bowled out and finishes with figures of 3/18.

1625: Wicket! Vihari c Finch b Kumar 1 (8b, 0x4, 0x6) Phenomenal bowling from Bhuvneshwar! He’s virtually unplayable today. The ball swings away from the batsman and Vihari’s half-hearted shot takes an edge towards first slip - where Finsh fumbles it once before holding onto it.

Score update: Sunrisers Hyderabad are 15/3 after 3 overs. 1615: Wicket! White b Kumar 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6): Oh my word! Cameron White’s turn to see the ball cut back and zap the stumps. Insane from Bhuvi.  1613: Wicket! Parthiv Patel b Kumar 12 (9b, 2x4, 0x6): What a brilliant delivery from Bhuvneshwar! Absolute brilliance – Parthiv can also see the off-stump take a beating. 1607: Wicket! De Kock c Marsh b Dinda 2 (8b, 0x4, 0x6): Brilliant bowling from Pune. Dinda has dismissed De Kock to leave Hyderabad at 5/1 after two overs. 1600: One over gone, and the brilliant Bhuvaneshwar Kumar has given away just two runs. A good first over is always a boost to any bowling team. Sunrisers XI: P Patel, Q de Kock, H Vihari, C White, B Samantray, T Perera, AA Reddy, K Sharma, A Mishra, D Steyn, I Sharma Pune Warriors XI: A Mathews, R Uthappa, A Finch, M Pandey, S Smith, M Marsh, A Nayar, T Suman, B Kumar, R Sharma, A Dinda 1535: Kumar Sangakkara has been left out of the Hyderabad squad today. Cameron White will skipper in his place.

Toss: Pune have won the toss and will bowl first.

Preview

On a high after having pulled off a heist against two-time winners Chennai Super Kings, Pune Warriors will look to further consolidate their position as they lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Wednesday.

The 24-run win over Chennai was no less then an achievement for Pune as the Allan Donald-coached side had gone into the match with three defeats from four outings, and the odds were heavily stacked against them.

BCCI

Opener Aaron Finch and Steven Smith plundered runs at will during their electrifying knocks against the Super Kings, and both the batsmen would look to continue in same vein at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium.

Leading the side in the absence of regular skipper Angelo Mathews, Ross Taylor did a commendable job against a team that has got the best record in IPL.

The visitors will be keen to get back to winning ways after being beaten comprehensively by  Kolkata Knight Riders  at the Eden Gardens.

They are aware that the one up next is also away from home, and it will take a lot of effort for them to emerge victorious.

On paper Pune may not be as strong as Kolkata, but the visitors know they can ill afford to make the mistake of taking their upcoming opponents lightly.

Hammered by the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Jacques Kallis and Eoin Morgan the other day, Hyderabad bowlers will hope to have a better outing against Pune.
