A Gujarati family from Valsad was in for a rude shock when they found a dead rat in the biryani that they ordered from the pantry of the Sarvodaya Express while returning home from Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu & Kashmir. Nilesh Patel, a teacher and his wife Veena had ordered three vegetarian biryanis from the pantry. [caption id=“attachment_606865” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Image for representation only. Reuters[/caption] A Times of India report says that when their seven-year-old son Monik dug a spoon in the dish, something heavy obstructed him. When Patel tried to help him out, it was found that a rat had been cooked in the biryani. The experience was horrifying," Patel said. “We have pledged never to have food from the railway pantry again.” Perhaps as a result of experiences like this, the Ministry of Railways set up a central monitoring cell with the toll free number 1800-111-321 for the convenience of railway users to register their complaints regarding catering services like food quality, and over charging, both at railway stations and in running trains. The facility is available all seven days from 7 am to 10 pm. Minister of Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal said that as soon as complaint is registered, all possible actions will be taken on real time basis to address that complaint. Read the full report here.
