Prevented from committing suicide by cops, woman hangs herself at police station

Sitapur: A 28-year-old woman who was prevented from committing suicide by police, hanged herself to death in a second attempt at the police station in the district today. PTI[/caption] Jeenat was rescued by forest guards while she was trying to commit suicide by jumping into a canal here, Superintendent of Police R Krishna said. The woman was brought to Mehmoodabad Kotwali police station here today, police said, adding that Jeenat hanged herself with her dupatta in the washroom of the police station. The victim was reportedly upset over a family dispute, Krishna said. However, the victim’s family members have alleged foul play on the part of police. They also blocked the Kotwali road in agitation and demanded an enquiry. Meanwhile the body has been sent for postmortem, police added. PTI
