Now here's a map to help you report and avoid flooded streets in Chennai

While Chennai is battling with torrential downpour, helping the citizens is a website that gives an overview of the areas that are flooded in the city. Through open source web portal, Github, five individuals, Arun Ganesh, Prasanna V Loganathar, Aruna S, Sanjay Bhangar and Sajjad Anwar created a map which highlights the inundated roads in Chennai. Users can report a flooded street by zooming into the map and clicking it. The data on the website application is open for all to use. Image Courtesy: Github[/caption] According to The Economic Times, the map-based project highlighted over 1500 streets that had been flooded in the last 24 hours. Arun Ganesh is quoted as saying, “My friend Aruna Shankarnarayan and I thought of such a map over the weekend as we wanted people to have a real sense of what is happening on the ground. There was no platform that was offering exact details.” Adding to this map-based indexing of waterlogged regions in the city, Google Maps offered a solution by adding ’layers’.
