Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railways on Wednesday said eight trains have been cancelled and seven others have been postponed to Thursday due to floods in lower Assam and ongoing track restoration work. AFP[/caption] Three special trains will be operational for transporting flood-affected people and helping in restoration work, NF Railway spokesperson said in a statement. The official said railway tracks have been breached at 16 places in the New Bongaigaon-Goalpara-Kamakhya section of Rangiya division due to massive flood over the last few days. Track restoration work is also going on between Aujuri-Sonuabari in Lumding division, he added. NFR has cancelled the 55805/55804 New Bongaigaon-Guwahati-New Bongaigaon passenger train, 05818 Dhubri-Alipurduar special, 55608 Silghat Town-Guwahati passenger, 55604 Mairabari-Guwahati passenger, while the 55611 Fakiragram-Kamakhya passenger train has been partially cancelled between New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya. The other three trains cancelled are 15471/15472 Alipurduar–Kamakhya– Alipurduar Intercity Express, 15460/15470 Alipurduar–Lumding–Alipurduar Intercity Express and 55810/55809 Guwahati–New Bongaigaon–Guwahati passenger, the release said. The spokesperson said seven other trains have been postponed to Thursday. Meanwhile, NF Railway will run two passenger special trains between New Bongaigaon–Goalpara Town and Guwahati-Chaygaon from Thursday till 30 September to facilitate travel of flood-affected people as well as restoration work.
