Mumbai gangrape: One accused is a minor, say cops

Of the five accused in the Mumbai gangrape case, one will now be treated as a minor. He is reportedly 15 years old and was sent to a juvenile home.

CNN-IBN reported that the brother of one of the accused has produced a birth certificate as proof of age.

Two of the five accused had earlier claimed that they were minors, however, the police has not name which ones they were.

Earlier today a group of women hurled eggs at three accused—Shiraz Rehman Khan, Vijay Jadhav and Kasim Bengali—in the photojournalist gangrape case when they were being brought out of a Mumbai court to a police jeep.

The women, claiming to be members of a political party, raised slogans and demanded that alleged rapists be hanged.

Confusion also prevailed over the age of another suspect, whose family claimed he was a minor.

Earlier, the trio was further remanded in police custody till 5 September.

The custody was extended after Crime Branch told the court that they are yet to recover some clothes of the accused and hence their remand was required.
