In midnight raid by Bharti, Ugandan woman forced to urinate publicly

After four African women were allegedly accosted by Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti and his supporters in the middle of the night on allegations of prostitution and drug trafficking, it was reported that the women were forced to urinate in public in the name of a drug test. Lawyer for the women Harish Salve told NDTV, “The minister did not let one of them to go to the toilet and she was forced to urinate in public.” [caption id=“attachment_1346081” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Somnath Bharti. AAP[/caption] Bharti had asked the police to come along with him to arrest the women, because he believed they were involved in drug trafficking. The police however refused to do so saying they had no search or arrest warrants. Another woman who was accosted by the minister told NDTV, “They were not wearing a uniform. They were beating us… they beat me in my eye… they beat me wherever… I thought they were going to kill me. After that they took me to the police. The police helped me very well.” The four women, including one who was beaten up, have also sent their complaints to the Ugandan High Commission in New Delhi, a senior police official told IANS. “They have filed a complaint against unknown persons who misbehaved with them,” the official added. In the complaint, they said that “some unidentified persons knocked at their door” past midnight and “when she asked them, they asked her to come out.” “When I refused, they continued banging on the door. I then opened the door and was caught and attacked.” She went on to say that the police came at the right time and she was taken to the hospital and discharged later. The victim lives in Khirki Extension in South Delhi, represented by Somnath Bharti in the Delhi Assembly. With IANS inputs
