Rohit Bhardwaj, a second-year student of Delhi’s Indraprastha University, lost his life on Monday night when a party brawl got too heated over the choice of music being played. According to The Times of India, Bhardwaj, 22, had gone to Subhash Nagar to attend a birthday party of his friend, Ankit, which was being held at a vacant plot next to Ankit’s house. Around midnight, an argument broke out between Bhardwaj and three others at the party – two of whom were the DJs – over the selection of songs being played. The argument quickly got violent and the three began beating up Bhardwaj with hockey sticks. [caption id=“attachment_2476902” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Representational image. He went to the party venue and saw his son being beaten up. He tried to intervene but they pushed him. He hit his head on the wall and lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness, his son lay dead. Bhardwaj’s friend Ankit rushed him to Civil Hospital but it was too late to save him, reports The Times of India. The publication also quotes Hawa Singh, ACP (Crime), Gurgaon, as saying that they believe the three accused were drunk at the time of the brawl which is why they lost their temper at Bhardwaj. The three have been caught and an FIR has been lodged under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC, reports The Times of India. Hindustan Times quotes Dr Deepak Mathur, the forensic expert at Civil Hospital as stating that Bhardwaj had suffered multiple injuries on his entire body, but the head injury was the death blow. The publication also reports that while the cops have confiscated the hockey sticks and the DJs’ laptops, they were unable to find CCTV footage as the cameras nearby did not cover the party venue.
