A massive fire broke out in near Infinity IT Park in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. The spot is an open plot adjacent to Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg in Goregaon which is in the vicinity of Aarey Colony, the biggest green lung in the metropolis.
The blaze was noticed on one of the forested hills in Habalpada, near the famed Film City, and it quickly spread to an estimated four kilometres.
Fire brigade control room received the information about the blaze at 6.30 pm, an official told PTI, adding that fire engines and two water tankers have been rushed to the spot. Efforts are currently underway to douse the blaze.
A level 3 was declared. Speaking to Firstpost, a fire official said, “While vehicles cannot move into the forest, we are making attempts to douse the blaze in some areas whichthe vehicles can access.”
Visible from long distances including the Western Express Highway, there were no reports of human casualties in the conflagration so far, the cause of which is not known.
The fire took place near Sanjay Gandhi National Park region, which has a variety of big and small wildlife including leopards, peacocks, deers, hogs, besides a variety of insects, birds and plant life.
The Disaster Management Control Room was asked to intimate all police stations surrounding the forest area to evacuate the place of people and cattle.
